    Talking My GP1200 65U build-up

Well I thought since there is this new old school section I would show you guys what I have been up to. As some of your know I was posting on here a little bit in the past but have been on X-H20 way too much!

Lets start off with some of the skis purchase history. About a year agao I was surfing PWCToday and noticed a real nice 97gp1200 for sale that was only a bout 3 hours from me. I got some pictures of it and I just had to have it. The ski was all good except one thing, the crank pin had snapped. Good news is it really didn't harm anything but the crank. I tell the guy I will buy it and I arrange a time to go get it. When I show up I almost sh#t myself. Here is a list of everything I was to be getting that day:

-1997 GP1200 with black/white Riva seat cover, clean title and everything
-Skat Trak 12 vein Magnum pump
    -Riva ported cases
    -Riva ported cylinders
-Riva Billet girdle head w/ 41cc domes
    -Riva billet carb spacers
    -Riva adjustable CDI
    -RAD aluminum lightweight flywheel
-Full set of V-force 1 and 2 reeds plus stock reeds with stuffers and boysen dual-stage carbon reeds
    -4 Solas XO props
    -Buckshot 46mm carbs
    -Riva adjustable sponsons
    -Riva alum. trim tabs
    -Riva/Bullet ride plate
    -Riva groovy ride plate
    -Riva top loader intake grate
    -Riva 2 bar intake grate
    -Riva/K&N air filters
    -5 degree exit nozzle

Recipts and service records all in a nice binder. Plus an OEM service manual!

Not to mention the piles of new OEM gaskets and loads of carb jets and pop-off gagues. I was shocked. When I left there the whole cab of my pick-up was filled with boxes of great parts. The best part about this was the seller; super nice! The engine was fully dissasembled with all bolts properly labeled and in zip-loc bags. Perfect. This really couldn't get any better. Can you guess what I paid for all this? $1,500. Yep 1,500 dollars, not 15,000 dollars!

Really the only thing this needed was a crank, pistons, gaskets, seals and some lovin.

To get the funds I sold 2 of the 4 XO props and some other stuff I didn't need. When that was all said and done I was able to pay for the new Hot Rods crank plus an R&D power phlem. I also bought a Fluid Balancer for it because they are rare and I came across one.

I have been severly slacking on this project but it is now in high gear!

Here is the head, flywheel and some case pictures. The flywheel was the only part with some damage but it isn't bad at all so I will be using it.

Right now I am waiting on an o-ring kit for the head from Riva and a base gasket from DGY. Oh and I got the crank welded too. The engine is getting new Pro-x pistons with a fresh hone job on the cylinder. And of course I'm using the best tools to build it.

    Question for you.

Have you tried the Riva top-loading grate vs the 2 bar? What's your take on the two?

Sweet, another old school player on the forums. Once you get that thing finished and dialed in, you should have a runner. The motor looks nice and clean and it is evident you have been taking your time and doing things right. However, it is very difficult for me to see that ski covered up on a pallet. Please send us some pics of that thing cleaned up sitting on a trailer, just waiting for the motor to be put back in.
