Any Honda Techs on here??? I need your help!!!
Ok been having this problem for a while. 2003 Honda Civic 1.7L Vtec (coupe)
- P0132 O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
- P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
- P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
- P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
- P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
- P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
- P1259 VTEC System Malfunction
Engine light will go on and off. only problem is when the cars cold it will at idle bog down then rev up level off bog down rev up ect ect till it warms up, once its warmed up everything is fine. if you drive it befor you let it warm up it will bog down but never stalls out. all this will kick the engine light on but on a good highway drive the light will go out.

miles? recent services? all codes show up at once?

220,000km's.... Timing belt and water pump done by Honda at 150,000km's... all codes at once been like this for 2 years, long befor i even did the timing belt. Im leaning towards a "TPS" sensor or idle air control valve on the throttle body.

TPS will usually set a code, but if you can get live data on a hand-held, you can look at the voltage and see.
IAC & throttle body may be nasty causing your cold surge.
Coolant temp sensor could also cause open loop drivability problems.
Actual true ign missfire is usually indicated by a P0300 along with the other missfire codes.
Check fuel pressure to be sure its okay, but Im leaning towards clogged EGR ports.

Just re-read and saw this one
- P1259 VTEC System Malfunction

Ive had the idle air control valve off befor and it was all clogged up and i did clean it out and seemed to be ok but that was in the summer when this problem doesnt happen much. didnt think about the EGR Ill pull it apart and see what i find. Have a E-test coming up so need to figure it all out, otherwise id prob just leave it lol.

thing that get me is this problem only last for a few min till its warmed up then its fine. that why i think is may be it "IACV"

At that mileage, they usually clog in the intake manifold injector base

Honda recommends valve adjustment as regular maintenance.
I worked on an Accura that had the bad idle issues and all the missfire codes, the valves needed to be adjusted, they were actually too tight-keeping them open slightly.
Could also be related to the VTEC issue (valve timing)
The P0420 could be caused by an exhaust leak, but Honda's have crappy catalytic converters and probably needs to be replaced after the missfire codes are fixed, engine missfires will damage the catalytic.
