    Hurricane project. Need ideas!

Just started doing a hurricane project with my friend last night. For those that remember this is the hurricane that gave me grief all last summer. We're starting over with cosmetic and powerplant. Intended river screamer.

Crank needs rebuilt first off, and I know the current cylinders have been sleeved with one having a broken exhaust manifold, so what else should we do while in there? I remember the long hurricane thread with talks of boring and stroking etc.. I need to find that and re-read, I recall alot of good ideas there.

Open to any possibilities, we just wanna have a list of options to take a long look at and decide how much will really be spent.

Without getting TOO insane, what would you guys do?

Plan on talking with Randy and Sharps as well to see what has been done before with good results.

You need to put a Sharps 910 Motor in there

A 777 Octane bottom end with ported MSX cylinders, for a true 800cc. Some bored stock carbs, watcon CDI, 92 domes. Should be a stout runner.

Realistically, it sounds like it could possibly be what Al said. 777 w/ twins.

I found the post on Pwc. 70mm rods, 84-85mm pistons.

We will need a crank, but dont know what i'm looking for yet.

And we will most likely need cylinders and a head.

If we can find 4 cylinders for a decent deal, and find the crank we need at a reasonable price, then that is when I'd say it's ok to get started with the engine project. Wonder if Randy still has a set of pipes!!??

I'll try to get ahold of him today and see what crank to dig up, and what cylinders and head we should go with.

If you decide to stroke what you have, ditch the 009 cylinders and get 019's. They'll have better torque than the already high port 009s.
Or have the cases modded for the MSX cylinders. Jay has some left.

I suggest a stroked crank (full circle) as opposed to the pork-chop 777 crank. More velocity for the charge, and less vibration.
Crankworks will do it, but it isn't cheap. But you can get any flavor you want.

If you have an updated ignition, Randy can do your CDI up for the longer stroke.

Twin pipes are great, but only Two people I know of have a set.

I miss my 'cane, it was a fun ride. I got some great air-time. Just without the ski. That thing was like a spiteful mule.

    One last thing,
If you're loaded, Sharps has a nice 910cc engine. That would be a widow maker.

What cranks are doable for this project if i find one? Can a 800 sled crank be rebuilt for this project?

Yah, an 800 watercraft crank is fine.

If you want to stroke a full circle crank, just use the stock 700 crank. Or I can give you a core.

Another option for a smooth running 70mm stroke is to use the crank wheels from an 800 snowmobile, as they are full circle. Rebuildable cores shouldnt be hard to find, as they are known for breaking their PTO end (not useable for watercraft anyway). Polaris doesnt sell new PTO ends, so they end up buying a whole new crank.
