    Hot tubs & spas: advice/recommendations?

My wife and I are considering a hut tub (technically a spa) next to our deck. Total noobs about this. Anybody have suggestions about brands/features/etc. that we should look for or avoid?

We have one, brand is Down East Spas, had it for four years now I believe. Never had any problems with it, ours seats six comfortably and isn't too hard to clean

I have had a Catalina spa for ten years. It been a good spa. But one pump $275 and the blower $150 and Balboa touch controller $125 the heater $50 has gone out. Some other things too. Not bad I think. Defiantly a money pit. But every thing is now days. Your power bill will go up between $30 to $60 a month. Depending how much a kw costs in your area and how much you use it. I have a middle of the road spa. No stereo or TV on it. But fiber optic lights and water falls. I have herd bullfrogs spas are good. There are so many spas out there. Make sure all jets are below the water line or you will be having to clean them allot more. Because of mold. Good luck with your choice. http://www.catalinaspas.com/catspamenu1.html

I have a hot spring prodigy and love it. It operates off 110 or 220. I have it running 110 with great results. I use it about 4-5 days a week and have never noticed a jump in my electric bill. I think them and caldera spas are the best you can buy. A cheap poorly insulated shell will cost you much more over the years. I just replaced my heater and it was around 300.00 if I remember correctly. chemicals cost me maybe 15.00 a month and I use chlorine. I really happy with mine and it doesn't have led waterfalls tv stereo etc. my parents had a caldera spa and it never had one issue, and had about every option brides tv. Do your homework when shopping for one.you will wonder why you waited so long to purchase on. I'm going in here very shortly!

i have a hawkeye spa and love it.... no complaints.... aside from them sending the wrong unit the first time.... nothing better than seeing the guys have to come back, disassemble the enclosure and drain the spa because they brought the wrong one....

We have a Limelight Flair, made by Hot Spring and we love it! It is really well insulated and it hasn't really had much of an effect on our electric bill. I would recommend starting out with a saltwater system. The upfront cost may be a little more, but it will save you money in the long run. It is also less maintenance than a traditional chlorine or bromine sanitizing system.

Whatever you get, make sure you wet test it before buying. I would advise wet testing a lot of different hot tubs to make sure you get one that fits you best.

If you don't mind me asking what was the it'd price on the flair? We're looking at getting a new one here within the next 6 months

We paid about $6500 for the Flair about 2 years ago. It has been great, no problems at all.
