Here are a few pics of the motor. I have a broken off exhaust bolt in one cylinder. If you look at the mating surface of the one cylinder where it meets the case there is a gouge, and there is the exact same gouge on the mating surface of the crankcase. Can I just put some sealer on that before I put the gasket on and be ok?

that's what I would do, are you using the 1211 sealer?

Yes I have the 1211. The cylinder with the damage is the same one with the broken off exhaust bolt in it, so I may be replacing it anyways.

its tough to tell from the pics, but from what I can see I would just use the sealer. Yeah don't even bother with the easy outs on them bolts, they will just break too. I assume it broke flush?

There is a tiny bit sticking out, maybe 1/16th of an inch. The gouge is not that small. I will most likely try the sealer. My leak down test would confirm if it worked or not.

If there is enough sticking up you can weld a washer to it then weld a nut to the washer and use some heat.

Just did some figuring out of everything I need. This project should come in well under 2000 bucks complete when its all done. And probably about 150-200 hours of my time.......

Flipped it over today
I got it emptied out and flipped it over today.
The damage wasn't as bad as I initially thought, but there still needs to be a few repairs made.
So it was off to West marine for some epoxy and filler to mix in the epoxy. 100 bucks later.......(OUCH!!!)
Tomorrow afternoon I will sand it all out and see what I have. Maybe one more round of filler and then its going to be time for sanding the rest of the bottom side and primer. Might have it in primer next weekend.
I scored a brand new set of sponsons on ebay today for 25 bucks to replace the ones i have. The sponsons on it now are so sun damaged they look like they are crumbling.
