Cool 2007 Sea Doo GTX 4-tec - 1st time jet ski buyer

I have never purchased a jet ski, but have friends that telll me Yamaha and Sea Doo are the best. I have a chance to purchase a Sea Doo GTX 4-tec for $4500. It has less than 60 hours and appears (pictures I have seen) to be in great shape. Can anyone advise me on any or all of the following:

1.Which is better, Sea Doo or Yamaha? Are they close in comparison?
    2. Does a 4-Tec require any special maintenance? Is this a good feature?
    3. Does the $4500 price seem fair? It includes the trailer.

Good ski, but you need to find out if the SC washers have been changed out.

2007s had metal from the factory I thought. $4500 seems low. Do a compression test on it before you buy it. Should be about 130# on all cylinders. make sure it's not corroded to hell. Water test it to make sure it's not stumbling, throwing codes or dieing out.

troyheb, I keep hearing about these SC washers. Any idea how much something like this costs to change out?

If you are handy with tools its not that hard to pull the charger. As far as changing them out it requires special tools and it is much easier to just send it to Jerry and have him rebuild it for you. That way you know it is done right.

4500 honestly seems to good to be true ... I would scoop that up even with out the trailer if all checked out I personally know my 07 gtx 215 had ceramic washers I changed them out at 74 hrs and I'm positive that mine had never been touched

What happens if the SC washers are not replaced? This ski has 53 hours and the owner does not think he has ever had that work performed.

If they arent replaced and they fail it'll send pieces of the ceramic washers throughout your motor. Now if they're still in but the ski runs great then you're fine as long as when you buy the ski you take out the SC and send it to jerry or someone else to be rebuilt.

Oct6454, does this apply to a non-supercharge ski? The one I'm buying is just 155 hp.

No s/c on the 155hp. Usually quite a bulletproof engine that should easily go hundreds of hours with the proper maintenance. Make sure the compression is good and that the oil has been changed on time. See if you can pry any history out of him. Make sure it was never hydro locked. Sounds like a sweet deal. I just bought one for $3000 with a trailer and no engine.
