    Kawasaki Jet Mate 900 Zxi swap

    My new Jet Mate 900 project Mar 18, 2012

    I just picked up a 95 ZXI 900cc and will be installing it into my Kawasaki Jet Mate.

    It had a 750 w/Coffman’s Rocket Exhaust w/o a water box and a Scat Trak 15.5 straight pitch. It ran 38mph with 3 people in it. I broke the rear cylinder piston rings running the buoys course at Jet Ski Cove by Body Beach in Lake Havasu AZ back in 2007.

    The 650cc was gutless at 52hp.
    The 750cc was perfect at 75hp was awesome.
    A 900cc at 110hp… We will have to see!

    The goal is to get 45mph. I’m not sure how well the 650 pump will do but I have seen 1100cc motors run on X2’s.

    The pump currently is cleaned up (blue printed) and runs an after market scoop intake grate with a well sealed pump which helps with cavitation.

    Harry at Group K suggests Camber I pitch. I will have to test out any suggestions as I move forward.

    I hope to adapt the trim function of the ZXI with fabrication while maintaining the Jet Mates factory reverse function.

    The other modification that I added fiber glassing a splash chime. This has eliminated the forward splash spray Jet Mates are notorious for.

    shave the head down on the 900 and run some big carbs! I like all the jetmate love recently, keep us posted on this.

    What do You guys think on the 100psi compression on that rear cylinder? Run it for a season or rebuild it? Just in case... I ordered a used cylinder on Ebay so I can have on stand by. I will have Harry at Group K machine them up for me with new Pro X pistons (Are they as good as Weisco???) he has in stock.

    1st step: get hull up to par this week...

    Pulled out 750 motor and old carpet. The Jet Mate had been sitting in the sun for 4-5 years. It was not uncommon to find 3-6 in of water I had to drain out over the years. Time to get this craft up and running again. I used Purple Clean to wash out the hull area. Tuesday I will get the sander out and start the bottom repair...

    More Pictures... I scored the ZXI in Las Vegas Last week on Craigslist 1hr after it posted for $1,400 w/ trailer!!! I took 2-compression testers and was ok with the 100psi on the rear cylinder. I have a nother cylinder on order from Ebay and will get machined w/new pistons..

    Anyone know if it's ok to run 87 octane on the ZXI? If so, with gas prices at $4.00 per gallon, 110hp at 87 octane is twice the power of that 52hp 650 motor.

    I have a friend who I can get to fab a larger gas tank. Anyone know how long you can run the ZXI @ WOT?

    Sean... I can always get another hi comp head and run it on days I want to run all out... I'll have to test it out later n.

    Thanks Sean...
    Here is my hull repair day. I cut out a bilge sump to catch that few extra oz of water... I also injected foam in the cut out area cuz I noticed a 1/2 in gap. Will clean it up and glass and sand Wednesday... I hope to be done with hull repairs by Friday.
