msx 150 engine into an xpl hull

just had an idea from a friend earlier. has anyone ever attempted or put a polaris msx 150 turbo engine into the 97+ xp hull? it appears to be pretty similar in size to the 951. what do these things turn up in rpms? just wondering if it would be worth the while to try i really would want to reach the low 70mph range

Buy a set of factory pipes for the 951. Cheaper and easier. There stock setup will put you just below 70 all day.

You would be better off with the 130 hp 951 engine and doing work to that instead of the msx 150. It is going to have to be a worked over 951 to get into that range. Look at a coffman exhaust, higher compression head etc. The 951 engine is a lot less expensie to work on and more performance parts. You should be able to pick up a 98+ xpl with performance parts on it for about $3,500+. Cool that you are thinking outside of the box though.

the msx 150 with stage one map revs too 7800, and stage two is 8100+#

ive got a stage one and bigger turbo, and prop, and i get well over 70 all day long. it pulls hard. massis of torque. if you got it in a XPL it would be fun, as that hull lighter and nimble!

possibly the main feature of a msx 150 engine is that the initial block is very small, so if you can relocate oil tank and charge cooler its fairly small.

I have two xps now. One with a 1020 I just about have dialed in. Have a coffman pipe with mpem but the engine in the 01 xp is all original so when it goes I want to put a 4stroke in it. I was thinking 70+mph with reliabillity would be nice lol and it seems more manageable than shoving a 4tec in there

I too like that you're thinking outside the box, however, the MSX 150 engine will put you in the poor house should something go terribly wrong...... they are very pricey to fix..... VERY PRICEY!!! Stick with a good, reworked 951.
