    boring cylinder with torque plate

I am getting ready to rebuild the top end of my Genesis fi engine. Someone mentioned that the exhaust manifold should be torqued to the cylinder while getting bored. Is this true? Thanks

Never hear of such techniques, I only hear that when assembling, exhaust manifold should be lightly to half way torqued before the cylinder base bolts are torqued down.

Absolutely untrue. Cylinder boring is a precision activity with the finest of tolerances with specialist equipment in a machining shop. Whoever told you this you should slap them with a big trout.

Actually that is not totally inaccurate.

I believe they did have to do that for some of the earlier domestic years????? I don't think that is the case any more.

It had something to do with the exh manifold bolts would distort the cyl once they were torqued to spec. So they use to bore the cyl after the manifold was bolted.

Thanks for the info. Now I can proceed without the fear of creating a problem.

I would contact Jay at Sharps Marine/Polaris Professionals and see if that is something you should be concerned with.
