It's sort of uncomfortable to see just one on this "list" or even just one more every year. It's really a bigger event than the current crop of reborn racers know about.

Ever see OVER 150 riders line up in a 10ft (frontside) breaking surf in San Felipe while fighting a receding surf, pitting while not spilling ONE DROP, (you just lost, if you spill A DROP of gasoline on the ground,) or racing in all conditions short of total fog-out, and knowing that the throttle is not just a "on/off switch?" Ever see a top pro, winning a race with 2 competitors on his ass, stop and save a sinking ski sacrificing his season in the process? 90 minute "Long Course" 2 hour, 3 hour, 6 hour Gran Prix races... Many series, stand alone, and within series. Imagine scoring those 150 plus riders for a three hour race. Imagine the size of the trophy presentation by a race-weary promoter for many, many, many classes. Sounds sort of dreamed up, doesn't it??? Amazing times...

Tracy Milan, Louis and Mary Norton, Jason Johns, our own John Belton, Mark Dobson, Kenny Ritchie, Terry Buckamier, Brian Bowen, Mark Sessions, Tracy Fowler, Matt Legerski, Julie Hart (who could ever forget her race with channel locks in place of handlebars, in a 3 hour gran prix,) Phil Schaefer, Dan "Bronco" Kelly, Lou/Louis/Lonnie Peralta, Shawn Alladio (moderator,) Harry Klemm, Victor Sheldon, Walt Cadman, David "Red" Longacre, Chris Longacre, Phred Urman, Chris the Fish Fischetti, Eric "Rudedawg" Graff, Ted Thompson, San-Felipe-Bob, Jim Hart, Andrew Buck, Clayton Jacobson III (everyone should sort of know this name if you ride a ski,) Anne-Marie and Jill Fritz, Rod Clemens, The Hahns, and COUNTLESS others, that largely have gone forgotten by a current crop of stars, who might remember a couple of folks still hanging around or remembered in memorial. More and more aren't with us anymore. Back then, most of the movers and shakers didn't even consider themselves real pro-class riders, and some weren't even racers that made all the difference... I ain't saying they were humble. Most had the same arrogance you see on any race course today, but I'd hate to lose the fact that these racers all came with family support systems, and gave a large portion of their life for this sport just so that we can establish an elite few.

It is a different race world today, and to try "hall of fame" a few racers really loses what it was all about. We were a very large extended family... Prop a few up, if it shines a better light on it, but PLEASE don't think this was what it was all about.
