How much would it cost me to rebuild a carb on a 2003 stx-r 1200??

Hey guys wanted to ask a quick question. I was looking at this stx-r 1200 and the carb needs to be rebuild. It's not running. She's been sitting for 2 years so that things probably clogged. Is there any chance of it being able to be cleaned or does it need to be rebuilt? And if so how much would a carb rebuild cost? Feel free to comment or give an opinion.. Thanks fellas.

250 in parts roughly (80-85 bucks a rebuild kit x 3 carbs) plus labor unless you do it yourself. factor in a battery and to drain the tank as well and put fresh gas in it.

The 250 in parts plus labor in the long run will save you the headache of paying for a full carb and engine rebuild on the motor. i went through that when i had my stxr.

If no diaphragms are torn you can probably get away with a thourough cleaning. You can find rebuild kits on ebay for 49.00 each carb. I had a set of carbs sitting just as long and I fully dissasembled them and soaked all the jets and metal pieces in Seafoam. I then took the rack of carbs over a garbage can and with carb cleaner, sprayed the hell out of all the passages. Make sure you run it through ALL passages to ensure there are no clogged or gummed up areas. Reassemble and it will be like new. Mine was.

I don't think you can overhaul a CV carb that cheap, at least if you have to put a slide in it.

I'm pretty sure the picture is just for reference as I called them and they said it's a full overhaul minus the slides.

Correct. My recollection from my 2000 ultra 150 is that if there is any corrosion in these CV Carbs, the better bet is to get new ones or find good used ones. I would check this website, these guys specialize in Skis like yours and may have some CV Carbs laying arround www.groupk.com

Almost every set of CV carbs I have seen have corrosion on them. It gets under the paint and flakes the paint off. If there is no corrosion on the inside the carbs, then you should be good. There are many small passageways on the stock cv carbs so make sure when you clean them, you spray out all passages with carb cleaner. If there is any blockage, you need a carb replacement. If you get new carbs for any reason, I will buy the trashed ones for spare parts. I need choke plates and an idle adjuster if anyone has one.
