    yep

oil will deteriate just by being exposed to the air after some months , by how much I cant say

but considering how cheap oil is compared to a dead engine I just play it safe and change it often
and when I cant remember if its due I just do it again

I recommend a log sheet on a piece of paper or just an excel sheet! I log all my maintenance dates and hour on the ski! I also log any problems that I may have with the ski so I can keep track of things! For example ski died in choppy water once and started right back up! I had no idea what to make of it! Logged when it happened and the condition, then few months later it happened in the same water condition. I found out it is the slant detection that can cause that! But the point is when it happened the second time and I checked my log it was after 30 some hours! That told me it was perhaps the slant detector!

Change the oil and filter just for the peace of mind!

you want to change oil at the _end_ of the season, so your shiny crank bearings aren't sitting in nasty acid and combustion by products-infused oil all winter.

Oil is cheaper then engines ..but we may not have been getting the truth for a long time on oil life. Only way to know for sure is having it analyzed..and 4 quarts of oil is far cheaper then that!
