Hey guys we just installed a solas impeller on my buddies 02 gp1200r and when we were finished we ran the ski. Now we are hearing grinding noises comming from the pump. Seems the impeller is hitting the stainless steal wear ring. Now yes we ran it out of water for 5 seconds or so once we heard it sounded like **** we turned it off. While turning it off we noticed that it must be rubbing quit a bit to Any ideas. I have seen posts that you guys say just bring it and sit it in the water and it will fix it self. Is this a common thing when replacing impellers? Any feedback will help thanks.

Did you check the pump bearings before installing the new prop?

Why do you ask that. Spun free after install in my hand?

he asks that because if they are worn bad they can spin free but still wobble from side to side hitting the ring. Like a wheel bearing.

That old OEM impeller was probably worn a bit (O.D.) and the new SOLAS impeller will have a tighter fit; slightly larger (O.D.) back to factory specs.
It will slightly rub on install. It should go away after you ride it the first time.
Spray a little WD in the pump/impeller area, crank it up, if it quiets down a bit, thats all it is.

Probably a seperated wear ring liner.
