stub shaft coupler on 150 came loose. bad times.
my msx 150 has been running great, untill today.
the 6 bolts for the stub shaft on the crank PTO came loose. threads are damaged on 5 of the bolts, the 6th bolt snapped in crank.
pulling the engine to see how bad the threads are in the pto flange.
post photos asap.

Were these loctited in? they need to be for sealing the oil (holes are not blind) Still should not have come loose.

Hi Kosh, thanks for the replay.
i know why it happened. i had to but a second put stub shaft coupler from usa (second hand) as i broke mine on removal. i was waiting for this part so i could refit engine. so when it came i fitted it swiftly. i loctited in, but the bolts became de-torqued.... see the pics... you will see why!!!
i fitted this unit. im fully at fault for not fully inspecting second had part. its been badly damaged. how did they do it, cant believe i missed it!!!
crank first inspection:
got bolt thread out. see the damage gouge on pto face next to bolt snapped:
stub shaft damage. how did i miss this. how did guy who parted out ski in USA do this?

Looks like there was an attempt at a repair made to it.

yesterday i managed to swap the cast couplers over. it was difficult todo, has to heat coupler with a heat gun set at 600deg!! so i have one perfect stub shaft, and one fit for scrap.
fit it asap, just waitng for some new m10x45 bolts (1mm pitch) ive got some hi tensile highest quality stainless ones coming. i think they will do job fine (couldnt get and mild ones locally, and the OEM ones seem to have a zinc coating??
ive also got a new tube of loctite 577 for the coupler bolts just incase. i may also replace the washers with spring washers underbolt heads (providing ive enough thread)
im retro fitting a seadoo 4-tec rectifier while im at it, as my weber rectifier had a bad discharge problem. hopefully that goes probem free!

When you need good used engine parts like that, drop me a line. I have tons of used engine parts, and sell them at 50% of retail. The problem was most likely caused by the stub shaft being "our of round", and the wobbling, egg shape effect vibrates the bolts loose. The bolts need to be torqued correctly, and they are difficult to hold. Call me if you need a suggestion on how to hold them.
