Getting a passport in a hurry
I know I should be able to get one faster than going through the post office. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I need one for a trip in 3 weeks.

Try the consulate of where your going, like the Mexican consulate. That is where I got mine years ago.

You can pay extra for express delievery!!! I think it's 6 weeks for the regular and 2 for express!! You might be in luck.

My wife works at the post office and the passport fee is $97.00 but it takes about 6-8 weeks. You can expedite the passport for around an extra $100.00 which will get it back to you in less than 2 weeks. If it is an emergency, you can make an appointment at the regional passport center (New Orleans) and get it done all at once. Go on the usps.com website or the state department website to download the application (DSP-11) and all of the instructions. You will need your original birth certificate, not the hospital one. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help. 2 weeks should be fine since I do not have to leave until Feb 17th.

depending on how you are traveling you can plan one extra day and get a passport. I had a cowowker who's international flight left from San Fracisco so she left a day or two early and visited the regional (or what ever it is called) passport office there and got her passport in one day.
My company paid extra to get mine in 3 days. I did it at city hall when i lived in Phoenix
