    Driveshaft end play

How do I measure the driveshaft end play? I need to move the engine rearward slightly to add a little more tension to the bellows but I want to make certain not to move the engine too much.

I have added O rings to a new bellows and still have some cavitation.

Alright gents, I think I have it figured out. But first let me answer the Snowman's questions.

The carbon ring and bellows are new, the hat is 1 year old and in excellent condition, the pump seal is very good, and I can only assume the pumpshoe is aligned, same for the thru hull fitting.

The problem is that the engine was too far forward (from the factory), resulting in too little tension on the carbon ring/boot.

The FIX; I moved the engine rearward about 1/2" (by loosening the bolts holding the motor mounts the hull).

I removed the driveshaft, carbon ring/bellows, realigned the engine, installed the driveshaft only (with the rubber bumper), installed the pump, then checked movement of the driveshaft. Now, it has about 1/2" movement forward/rearward. Its my understanding that 3/8" is the minimum forward/aft movement. Removed the pump & driveshaft, installed the carbon ring/bellows (with O rings), the hat and driveshaft, then lastly the pump. I couldn't install the C clip so I had to roll the O rings off the bellows. I was then able to install the C clip, then rolled the O rings back in place on the bellows. Done!!!

Hopefully, that will solve the cavitation issue.

Funny this thread came up. On my TX i always wondered why the bellow/carbon seal didnt feel nice and tight. I have done dozens of carbon seals and bellows on customer skis and they have always felt like they had alot more tension.
