'99 XPL oil leak at check valve

Yesterday I installed my new throttle/oil cable and had to move the oil tank around. This morning i was adjusting the oil cable and noticed some oil on the bottom of the hull and traced it to the red check valve on the bottom of the tank. I felt around and was able to twist it ccw and cw. Do those check valves screw in or just pop in? What can cause them to leak?

    Thanks

They just pop in. its probably just old and starting to dry rot. when you go to fill the tank back up pop that old one out and install a new one
