I dont think Ive ever read that anyone has ever grinded on their own plate to copy aftermarket plates (except for guys like Duke, who've got plenty of hours in tuning/trial-and-error). Otherwise, pretty much seems that people pay for another brand, or they send them out for Jim or speedfreeks modding.

Other than filling in the bold wholes, and smoothing the plate out the best you gain, they're isn't much you can do to it. I had an 02 GTX-DI, which is the same hull and ride plate as the 4-tec. The plate on it was pretty rough when I got it. I fill in the bolt wholes, and sanded all the pits and cracks out of the paint and smoothed the entire plate out. The plate was so bad, it added about 2mph after I was done with it.

It can be done and many have. You can grind down the mating surface to Change angle. You can also shave some off the rear, just be careful how much.
