Crank and case interchangeability on XL1200

Hey guys, I just picked up a 98 xl1200. Got a great deal on it. The number 3 cylinder had no compression, so I just yanked the motor out. When I began inspecting the outside I noticed the rod had gone threw the bottom case on the pto end. This is a non-powervalve motor. Sooooo, my question is, are the powervalve andnon powervale crank the same, any idea on years I am able to use, models, gp1200? etc. Also the bottom case. Are they the same? Any help would be much appreciated!

    not interchangeable

98 XL1200 uses 65u cases & crank, powervalve motors use 65v. They are not interchangeable.
GP1200 motor is same as XL1200 for 1998.
