    Dead at 50hrs.

Hello guys and gal, im new to pwc just picked up a 02 gp1200r the motor had been rebuilt by jet sky factory in Oviedo, Fl and the first time came out wrong they took it back and redd it, I bought it with 49 hrs onthe new rebuilt, tested it before buying it ran great and looked great , including all service receipts, took it home and to the lake 2 days later , it ran great for about an hr and 1/2 then it died,

I teared it down and #1 cylinder loooked as it was lean and blew a hole in the piston. my question?

1 will i be better buying a rebuilt engine $1200? or rebuilding it myself?

I have repaired dirt bikes and atvs never a pwc I do have the service manual for it.

all service receipts, carbs done, crank done, pistons .50mm over etc.

I was in the middle of the lake with my daugther when id died and after it cooled down i started it and trolled it to shore maybe a 5min. ride.

Dont know what happened to the rest of the tread, but here it goes....

I bought a jet ski with 49hrs after a rebuilt, all receipts and service records, took it out first time and after 2 hrs riding it it just quit after a tear down, i found out the #1 piston was lean an a hole in the middle.

My original question was should i rebuilt it myself or just order a rebuilt engine (core replacement)?

I went ahead an ordered the engine for 1200 and 2 year warranty plus sent my carb to rebuilt.

    Ps i was running premix

Alright so I got a rebuilt motor from PWC Engine, new updated power valves, rebuilt the carbs and jetted for premix, new reed petals, got everything together went out ran it max speed around 40mhp to break it in for about an hour, a week later i took it to the lake went out pull the plugs looked ok went out came back pulled the plug still ok went out a couple of WOT run and lost power, no compression on cylinder #1, I didnt open it cuz it would void the warranty. Im running 40:1 amsoil interceptor because the previous owner said that is all he ran.
I sent the carbs back to be warrantied and the engine to pwc. do yoiu guys have any suggestions i dont want to run for 2 hrs and have to rebuilt all the time......

here's the pics from the powervalve side

    I don't know squat about watercrafts, but I'm a bit familiar with 2t & 4t dirt bikes...

I'm not sure where the powervalve is on the ski, but It's fairly common on older 2t bikes for the powervalve hard stops to wear to the point that the valve protrudes into the cylinder and makes contact with the piston/rings. Are there witness marks on the powervalve?

Do you warm your motor up? Starting up a 2t and revving the piss out of it when cold can cause catastrophic damage.

A lean condition will also lead to results like this, have you heard any detonation? What's your timing set at and what kind of gas are you running?

With all the troubles you've been having, you should warm it up and then take a plug reading. Ride it for ten minutes and then take a plug reading. Ride it for thirty minutes and...blah blah blah.
