What a stupid thing I did changing oil

I was extracting oil from one of my FZSs and the plastic tube I had inserted down the dipstick tube snaped about a foot down inside the tube. It was some old tubing I had laying around and had gotten a bit brittle. Had to take the intake manifold off to get the dipstick tube out and extract the plastic tube. Fortunately it came out with the dipstick tube. The task took the greater portion of the day but I learned a lot about the intake side of the engine.

You should have removed the ribbon while you were in there.

I thought of that but I believe you need a part to replace the ribbon which I didn't have.

I did the same thing 4 years ago and guess what its still in there. Called a bunch of folks and they said that since it was in the collection area no moving parts so leave it be until its time to rebuild. Have had absolutely no problems. Glad you were able to remove it.

I thought about leaving it in there but I couldn't push the dipstick all the way in.

I did something similar except it was a 5 gallon gas can and the nozzle was loose, unknown to me, and the moment I tilted that gas can the nozzle dropped right into the gas tank! and yes, it's still there 2 years later. lol...
