    96 SLT 780 and 96 SLTX

Just picked these up today for cheap. They are doing the rev limiter (I think safe mode) thing. I noticed the MFD doesn't work either. Does it have to work for the ski to run properly? It has fuel and oil. The 780 has identical symptoms. They both idle well and rev up but if you pin the throttle, its like they hit a rev limiter before they spool all the way out. The guy "said" they both ran fine last year and the MFD's both worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bill

I tried disconnecting the mfd. 1/4 amp fuse looks ok. Disconnected grey wire. Full of fuel and oil. I'm stumped

Still does it with the grey wire disconnected from the board? When it hits the limiter, it sounds like its misfiring. Is that what its doing?

It'll hit the rev limiter if your pinning the throttle while on the trailer..

+1 ^^^^^^^ Not a good thing.... Ski does not need the MFD to work, but you will not see the RPMs and know if it is hitting the limiter......

Update... 1/4 amp fuse is hard to read. One MFD now working (780), other not (1050). The one not working is water logged and probably won't ever work. Replaced 1/4 amp fuse on both and are now fine. Had to leave the bad MFD disconnected to run right. May have to get one to replace it this summer. From what
I've seen 6700 rpms is about peak on the 780. What about the 1050 with the updated cdi (447?)??

There is a wealth of knowledge here and I tip my hat to you guys that have taken the time to put it up for everybody to see. Reminds me of the IQr section on hardcoresledder. A+++ forum you have here!

    Thanks,
    Bill

Ski should run with MFD disconnected.

What do you want for the non-functional MFD?

Rev limiter should kick in at about 6700 on both per original spec, so I would expect ideal to be around 6200 - 6300 RPM...... Not sure if the updated CDI would affect RPM range...

    780s I think run about 6500. The 1050 should be around 6400 I think...
