When this happens, does the display turn off as well? If it turns off, then the most likely cause is a bad DESS post. (or weak magnet in the lanyard).

don't know for sure, when it happened and i looked at the display it was like you take off and reinstall the key.

Check the wires on the mpem. put the key on and then move the wire harrness see if it shuts off..... I had a similar issue.

i think i did. i have a umi steering and the lanyard was hitting the hood. i think that the hood shake a bit and puched the key to lose the connection with the dess post without pushing off the key. i put the dess post on the other side of the steering with the mount with the back to the front so the key is now clear of the hood. i took a drive yesterday and all was good.

    thanks for the advise.

Just FYI, if this was the problem, then your key magnet might be weak, or the DESS post reed switch might be weak, or both.

The only time the key needs full electrical contact is right at the point on installing the key. From that point on, there is no electrical connection needed from the key to the post. The only thing that matters after you start the ski is that the magnet in the key keeps the reed switch in the DESS post closed. If you hood hitting the key cocked the key to one side, a weak magnet might not be enough to keep the switch closed.
