Unhappy Random bogging, carb or running rich?

    i have a 94 750ss premix 50:1
it has been fouling spark plugs about every 1-2 days.
it runs great for about 30 minutes no hesitation very fast and all the sudden it will bog really bad and white smoke from the exhaust for 30 seconds or so. it will do this a couple times per hour then it will kick a little and go back to full speed. the plugs were wet black with gas and oil, switched to ngk 7's and the plugs are lasting longer but it still does the random bogging/not running good.

    my question is
is the problem clogged carbs(seems like it would bog all the time if this was the case)
or is my fuel/air mixture to rich?

please help this is driving me insane im afraid its going to leave me stranded one day.

    Welcome aboard, tlr386!

I wonder if you're getting water in the fuel or something. Have you run a compression test?

    Sounds like it's running rich.

no i haven't done the compression test i just figured it was good because when its not bogging it runs perfect and does about 50 or so.

i was going to try to mess with the screws on the caburetor today to try to lean it out, but it was to confusing and i didn't want to mess anything up. i also wasn't sure if that's the problem.

I would throw out another suggestion to look at if not carb issue. Check all electrical connectors bad, loose, dirty, or wet connections. Any of those could cause similar issues.

didnt even think of that, i do notice a couple inches of water gets in my hull when i ride from a small exhaust leak, but would that explain the plug fouling?

Why do you have an exhaust leak? If it fills the hull with exhaust gases, it won't run right.

x2 on what Steve said. Fix that exhaust leak first and see if it helps the situation. Not something to overlook

im not to sure if its an exhaust leak but right below the exhaust manifold near the coupling there is a slight water drip when the engine is running. could this be my problem?

The rubber coupling is leaking water? That probably isn't your problem, but I'd try to fix it.

If it's fouling spark plugs like that, it's probably too rich.

What are the mixture screws set at?
