    96 Raider 1100 Carb tuning help please

    OK, well I have had these things off a dozen times and tried just about everything. They have been totally rebuilt as well as a brand new Mikuni fuel pump.

    First I could not get it off idle, so I turned the slow screws out 1/2 turn. This solved my off idle problem.

    Now at 1/2 throttle it shuts down completely.

    Is my Popoff too High?

    If anyone has the completely Bone stock specs please help. I am starting to wonder if the previous owner made some "adjustments" and never told me about it.

    what is the Stock Spring weight? Needle and seat size?

    Currently at:

    Popoff at 55psi using gold springs (in the rebuild kit)
    1.5 Needle and Seat
    Stock Jetting.

    Any mods to the ski? Have you check compression lately? The carbs can only work as well as the mechanical condition of the engine.

    Only Mod is the Riva through hull exhaust which removes one of the waterboxes.
    Stock Air intake.

    Compression is 125psi in all 3 holes. (verified this morning)

    Got it all sorted out. As it turns out, the brand new fuel pump I bought was defective. Replaced with another one and she runs great.

    final Carb settings are:

    Stock Jetting (middle carb different size jet)
    Carb "update kit" installed. (I used a Jet from a holly carburetor inserted into the return fuel line)
    1.5 needle and seat
    1 turn out on the High Speed screws
    7/8 turn out on the Low speed screws
    Black springs (80gram) for a pop off of 40psi
    Choke plates are removed and primer kit installed. (I don't need to use it though)

    I think it still may be a little rich in the top end. I am going to have a friend "read" the plugs for me this weekend. I am a little hesitant on leaning it out without a second set of eyes on the plugs.

    You need to tune it with a tach....reading plugs is not desired due to the variances in additives etc. Your best bet is to get a good tach and tune from there!
