2004 RXP Knock sensor testing !!

Hi folks, took my ski out today after an engine rebuild .......anyway the "check engine" light came on and the P-0326 error code for knock sensor out of range was logged.

I have the moded wiring harness and everything was fine before the rebuild.

I have checked the knock sensor on the ski and it measured 3 ohms across the terminals...took the sensor off the ski and it measures 16 ohms.

I think the resistance should measure 5 ohms, is that with the sensor on the ski ? Should the measurements be different if the sensor is attached to the engine or not?

If I get a new knock sensor should it measure 5 ohms straight out of the bag ?

    What do you think?

    Cheers.

According to the manual it does not say on or off the block...I have one off the block ill check and see if it measures any different than 5 ohms

on the block should measure 5 ohms with the jumper disconnected. If you removed the knock sensor during rebuild and did not torque it correctly when reinstalled, you could have ruined it

it seem to me they run lower resistance when hot?

The spec is not "5 ohms". The spec is 5 Megohms. Most common cheapy DMM's cannot reliably measure megohms readings. If you don't have a Fluke or equivalent quality meter, your readings might be all over the place.

I have a fluke and was reading M ohm but 2 sensors I have start reading lower when the engine is hot? Is that normal?
It reads 2.07 when the engine is hot. 4.87 when cold.

I had knock sensor problems on mu ski with similar readings. It seemed fine when cold but when it warmed up it would read low or open, i ended up replacing the sensor. As for the difference in readings on and off the block it shouldent make a difference whatsoever. The knock sensor is basicly a microphone and it me mounded or dismounted doesnt effect the res reading of it. If it does measure differently its likely the sensor is internally shorted

both knock sensors I'm dealing with the ohm readings change buy squeezing them in my hand. and also change with temperature.

I am not sure if they are good?
