    Intake Ribbon Mod

    Hello,

I have 2012 FX SHO and I have been reading about removing the ribbon blocking the intake. Do you destroy the ribbon when you remove it? It would nice to put back in if I ever had a problem. Is the little ring that RIVA sells really needed if you remove the ribbon?

Removing the ribbon will not destroy it. It comes out in one piece in and can be reused if you need to. The Riva ring is necessary, I've seen people do their own mods using PVC, but IMO the riva piece is worth the 30$

Check out the R&D billet manifold sleeve also (GH performance store here). Very nicely engineered part and worth the xtra $10 imo.

mike.., how did you get that ribbon out easily?? I, along w/Ace and others, had a biotch of a time getting it out.

I used a cotter key extractor right in the center of it after I shot a little wd-40 around the rubber seal and it slid right out! I also spent the extra $10 and got the R&D version. Just don't wreck that rubber seal........

The R&D piece is longer to make a port matched ID between the throttle body & manifold. Can't say for sure if it makes a difference, but every little bit helps.

First two pics are the R&D part & last one is the Riva. You can see how the R&D sleeve extends through the bracket for smoother airflow.

yep I like that R D piece , has the lip on it , ounce you get that harness out the way things are a lot easier but theres some bolts underneath that are gonna give you a headache and the j pipe on the IC is a B ,there nothing hard or damaging about the install its just complicated to get to, I think when you do this your rpms are going to go up enough to hit rev limter "if I remember correctly"especially if you get the cold air intake you can get the intake grate to bring them back down,

Is the ribbon located in the intake manifold? So what do you have to remove to get to it? Do you have to pull the intake manifold?

Yes. You have to remove the manifold to get the throttle body off.
