First time oil change and maintenance for FZR
I am coming up on the first 10 hours on my 2011 FZR and I'd like some tips or "how to" on changing the oil and oil filter. My dealer naturally recommends that I bring it in to them and let them do it, but estimates on that range anywhere from 250.00 (thanks Beav on up. So do I really have to take it to them? What else do they do the first time in that I can't do myself?

Yep our local dealer here is throwing the $250 first oil change and initial checkup at us. Seems way too pricey for an oil change and to make sure nutsband bolts aren't loose?

I would review the service manual for the FZR. It outlines all the checks/ maintenance needed for the 10 hours service in chapter 3.
I usually get 2.5 qts of oil out when changing the oil. Try messing around with the trailer level to get a little more oil out.

Changing the oil is easier than most cars! I just did my FZS for the first time, and it took all of 20 minutes. Dropped the front end of the trailer down and was able to get about 3 quarts out.

Subscribed! - I'm also nearing my 10 hour oil change and got the same BS $250 for plugs, oil, and a filter from 2 different dealers. That's crazy. I've got a 1/2" diaphragm pump I'm thinking about using to evacuate the oil into a bucket.
