    ROTAX 717 Block issue

I have a ROTAX 717 motor i would like to rebuild . But the guy i got it from said something dropped into the rotor valve. well there is a pretty deep ring cut in the the valve cover and plate. on the block side how ever is doesn't seem to be as bad. Can i maybe just take a roloc pad or sand and clean the surface up a little? how crucial id the clearance of the plate. Or will the scratched even cause much problem?
Here i have some pictures. Thanks guys!Click image for larger version.

That's not very bad, I bet it will run just fine. If you're really worried about it, clean it real good, then sweat the oil out of the aluminum using a propane torch, then clean it again, then use a razor blade to smear some devcon into the groove, then let it cure.
But honestly, I have run, and seen, worse.
