    Is this a fuel pump?

I have aquired a 96 slx 780 for restoration. This is my first Polaris and have many good information here. But I can not figure out what this particular part is and its function. It almost looks like a fuel pump, but then there is already a triple in there. Do you think the PO left it in? Its the silver looking regulator looking thing on the right side of the ski. It actually "T" into the pulse line and goes to the blue 3 line fuel pump.

Looks like a single outlet fuel pump.

I have no idea why the previous owner would have added that????

Upon further inspection, I found that the triple is feed the 2 rear carbs, and the singe pump is feeding the front carb. Why? I have no idea, unless PO was a dweeb or there was a problem pressure on the triple. Didn't the 96 come with a triple fuel pump anyway?

Ditch that single, and rebuild the triple outlet.

Yes, all 780's came with a high output triple outlet. (pentagon shape)

Yeah, when I get my fuel lines in I'll replum the whole thing. I was able actually crank it like it was. I runs decent at idle. Carbs look new and clean but I didn't take apart yet. Lows and highs were way off 3 turns. Turn them back to stock settings and It idles fine, but seems to hit rev limiter increase. I had to replace the circuit board and may have put connectors in the wrong place. But not sure. I'll check it again. Boy thats a rat nest in there.

I'd order a fuel pump rebuild kit (along with carb rebuild kits) just for piece of mind. Looks on the outside mean nothing. Make sure to get genuine Mikuni rebuilds, here is not the place to try and save a few $$.

It will easily hit the rev limiter if it's on the trailer. There's no load on it.

And if you have a red light flashing on the MFD while running, it may be limiting to 4200 RPM (limp mode) which will act like a rev limiter

Yeah I agree with XLINT, rebuild the carbs period, its old, it wears out and it will hurt the motor, rebuilding the triple will be more than sufficient for your fuel needs. Secondary pump makes no sense here??????

Will do that when the fuel lines get here. I do have a warning light low fuel, so I suspect that is why it's limited the rpms. I know I'll be putting more that the ski is worth on this project. The question is how much more....

Depends... if things are done right the first time ( not like I did it ) not much more that what you have here unless the motor has some problems your not seeing. Any old ski you buy is going to end up costing you more that the NADA value but look at it this way, a new ski will run you over 10,000 so really your getting what you want at a way cheaper price. Trust me you'll love this ski once you get it going.
