    Flushing with the garden hose

Pulled the ski (VX cruiser) out yesterday and hooked it up to the garden hose for a pre-use flush. The dealer told me he "fogged the heck out of it" back in October and to run it for about 10 minutes on the hose.

I've never used the hose before because we always ride in fresh water and have only had it for one full season. So, lots of hiccups along the way learning the ins and outs of proper ownership. Turned the engine on then the hose and it did smoke a lot. The question I have is how much water should be streaming out from the cooling spout on the left side. The hose was on for about 2-3 minutes and water was sort of sputtering out of the cooling spout but not streaming. I became concerned it would overheat so I shut it off.

    Thanks!

Most water is lost out of the intake where the prop is. if you pinch off the line from the prop intake after it comes in the hull all water will be going to engine, oil cooler.

Depends on how hard you had the water flowing on the hose, high pressure will make it piss more, less pressure less flow............best way to make sure its pissing right is to back it in the water and run it.....you can leave it on trailer while you let it run

It should be coming out harder then that, increase the pressure.

On the Vx's it sort of sputters out no matter what water pressure you have.

I didn't know the VX series water would sputter unlike the higher end models. Of course on the Yamaha maintenance videos you can see the water just streaming out of the side when the hose is on.

Going to take it out on the lake tomorrow so hope all goes well. I think it might be time for and FX or SHO soon

Thanks for all of the replies.

Agreed. I was told (by the dealer) it doesn't come out as constant stream unless your riding at higher RPM's..

My 2011 VX sputtered water. When I turned the water on it took about 20 to 30 seconds for the water to come out of the spout.
I think it has more to do with the lack of a thermostat on the engine.
My FX SHO has a strong stream when on the hose but this engine has a thermostat.
