Trailer wheel bearings
I was guiding my trailer back today and the wheel bearings were making this grinding/ squeaking sound. The trailer is a Load-Rite aluminum double and it has bearing buddies. The trailer is used in salt and fresh, but it is always washed down good and I repack the bearings once a year.
Does it sound like the bearings are toast? This is my third trailer in 10+ years and I've never had this issue before. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yeah I'd look in to the bearings if you're hearing grinding. Have you jacked it up and checked if the tire had a smooth spin?

It's down pouring outside, so it will have to wait till tomorrow. Speaking of which, when I jack up one side of the trailer will it put too much weight/ stress on the non jacked up wheel? It has torsion axle.

They're pretty durable so I'd say it's safe. If you don't feel secure doing so then just run a 4x4 across the frame and use a couple of floor jacks if avaliable.

It does sound like the bearings are no good..
All it takes is a little water and grit in there and they can eat up the bearings.
Good thing they are easy to replace.
Glad u caught it when u did and not on the road some where...

Made an appointment at a local trailer dealer to diagnose it and replace the bearing if needed. I'll report back.

I went to a local trailer place called T&T Trailers in Mendon, MA. They replaced both bearings which were in "ok condition." They put the whole trailer on a lift and did it in 1.5 hrs. 130$ for parts (2 bearings) + labor.

WOW! Complete bearing sets from Loadrite themselves run $9-16 per side for everything (depending on the hub size) and they're even less from an auto parts store!
That's why the suggestion to DIY this.....
