Yeah If I was the judge would of thrown the case out. As far as being out there a day after a hurricane um so what!! Maybe thats a good time to have the most fun dumb asses!
You guys are going to laugh at the ripple-wake when I show you what it looks like that these D-bags are complaining about.

yes, the law states " Safe Steerage Speed in excessive current, as long as Ground Speed does not exceed 6 mph, or WHAT EVER IS NEEDED to maintain steerage of vessel "
what is really funny, is i've been operating these waters for over 30 years in boats never had ANY ISSUES
and my first year with a jetski i get a ticket..
i forgot to mention.. the ONLY boats we saw were the CG and the local city police boat..
no jetskis nothing.. the water out on L.I. Sound was like glass..

plead not guilty..
"didn't turn out well..
simply put..
1 "you shouldnt have been out the day after hurricane"
2 "the increased current has NO bearing on how much wake you make in a no wake zone".. Ie make wake you can get a ticket.(even though law states otherwise which i had the law book with me or even read/look at the law)"
As you can guess, I'm pro-PWC, but I saw the above coming: Basically no means no. And, being in the deep south, we don't kid around about temp NWZs being posted due to floods, hurricanes, ... Regardless of any individuals right to pursue happiness, you just aren't going to make friends by joy riding during those situations.
The rest is BS - you weren't really given the chance to defend yourself and were pretty much guilty from the moment you walked in the court...

Problem: 'Hey man it's a 5mph zone, you're going too fast!'
Solution:

I always change my VTS to make the front go down some. That means, the nozzle aims down and it looks like I'm going slower than I am

It really does help with wake though.

I think the size and outcome of your wake is usually based on the mood of the water patrol!
