    MFD no rpms

1999 SLX 1050 my MDF works for all other reading but not for the rpms. It just reads 000 when it is running. Is it toast or this there anything I check for? The ski seems to run fine.

Open the electric box and check the connections of all of the yellow wires.

Thanks Bryan, I checked my yellow wires. I had 3 yellow wires connected to the terminal. I ohms tested the one going to my MFD and it tested good. What should I look for next?

unplug the mfd and plug it back in and see if that fixes it

I unplugged the mfd to test the yellow wire going to it from the electrical box. Started it up after it tested good and still 0 rpms

Unplug the harness from the MFD. Start the engine and see if you can read AC voltage between the yellow and black wires in the MFD harness. If you get a reading there I would then try the MFD reset procedure and see if that fixes it. If you get no voltage on the yellow wire, start tracing the yellow wires all the way back to the stator. Also do an ohm test on the stator to see if it is indeed outputting current to charge the battery. You could also check your battery voltage with the engine running to see if its actually charging. The issue lies either in your MFD or in the yellow wire circuit all the way back to the stator.

How much AC voltage should the yellow wire test at? Would the ski still run if the yellow wire from the stator is not showing any AC voltage?

I don't know what the reading should be. You are just checking to see the charging coil is outputting some sort of signal. Yes the ski will run, it just won't charge the battery if there is a problem with the charging coil in the stator. A friend of mine had this same problem and I found a bad splice in the wires from the stator to the electric box. If someone had cut the wires from the stator and spliced them back together, there may be a bad connection. Trace the harness from the stator back to the electric box looking to see if there are any splices.
