    RXT-IS 260 Pump Bolt removal?

Trying to removal nozzle bolt to remove pump. The left bolt with arrow pointing to it just spins freely. Captive bolt on back side broke loose i guess. So I went inside hull to maybe remove IBR drive, and there is another bolt that just spins freely in there. So what is a person to do to fix this messed up design?

Yes the design sucks.. Insert is spinning. Run a small drill into the end of the insert. Drill bit will grab and then you can remove the bolt. Replace the plates, gaskets and bolt(s).. I've done a couple. Use minimal blue locktite when re-installing.

Got it out, had to cut the bolt and all came out, now i have to get a new plate and gasket. Horrible design, so much for 2hr wear ring replacement.
    Thanks

Ive been lucky enough not to replace it yet and have had my pump out at least 5 times. I use a small amount blue loctite and minimal torque. I think the spec calls for +20 ft-lbs but that is too much for the nuts in plastic...just snug it up and let it sit for a few hrs for the loctite to harden. JPT made a plate out of brass and seems to have worked well...I was gonna make one out of SS over the winter just never got around to it.

Attached is images of the tiny brass insert that failed. One on the bracket inside for the IBR and the important one that started it all in the tunnel for the nozzle. Also during disassemble the nipples on the bulkhead for the hoses broke really easy, and that is a separate part from plates. I tried the drill trick on the IBR bracket and it just cut plastic as it pulled drill bit in circle. I got plates, bolt, spacer all ordered to fix. I cut the bolt in the tunnel through spacer, bolt, and bracket, easiest way I could see removing this. Stainless for the starboard side looks easy, but port has the IBR motor seal going through and that would take a cnc or washer stack and tig.

Glad you got them out. I'm getting good at this. What does that tell ya...

I think the new 2012 design is improved. Haven't taken one appart yet but it looks like the plates are smaller and are re-designed.
