    1996 sl900

I have a 1996 SL900 and I am looking to get a little more performance out of it to keep up with some one the bigger skis around here. What are my options as far as upgrades?

    Thanks Markus

Without spending a lot of money there isn't much you can do that would make a drastic difference. You could do a 6 vane pump stator, and maybe a nujet prop to get a little more top end, but those 2 combined might get you 2 MPH. Drop a 1200 in it then you would keep up

You could always upgrade the 900 to a 1050 for a little more punch.

You would have to have the updated ignition on your 900 to swap over to a 1200 also

I do have that. But i dont think im ready for a 1200 swap yet i decided. What would i gain from say the stator and prop? What about reeds? or Ocean pro O plate?

The Ocean Pro O plate may actually slow you down on glass conditions. But it will make the ski handle rougher water better.

You need to assess the cost, its all about performance vs spend. It has been suggested to go for an upgrade, depends on what top end you are targetting (what are you getting right now?). I had a 900 that would give me reliable 60mph just through a 6 vane pump and MSX prop setup but the engine was very healthy. When I upgraded the top end to a high comp 1050 and 40mm carbs I got a max of 63.1 on glass, but still averaged about 61-62 reliably. Reeds will give you snappier performance, not so much top end. There could be some gains in shimming the ride plate also, like the GPR guys do but I haven't investigated that myself. I don't see all of the upgrades available to ever give a 900 more than a 65-66 top to be honest (maybe more with pipes and porting work). The 1200 pro for example will get close to that speed in stock form, and would ultimately cost less than the sum of 900 upgrades. There are more performance options available as well such as tripple pipes. Then you can upgrade a 1200 if you see fit which would give you even better gain. My 2 cents.
