Emergency - allen wrench fell through oil filter hole

An allen wrench just fell through the hole at the bottom of my oil filter reservoir while changing the oil on my RXT (don't ask how).

What are my options here? Is there any way to get that thing out of the engine without pulling the whole damn engine out?

I'm about to go to the store and see if they sell any that are slender enough. Due to the way the hole is on the side of the bottom of the filter holder, I'm not sure if a magnet will work here though. I'm also not sure what's under that hole, or how far down it goes...

If any of those are not skinny enough how about a small metal rod with a strong magnet on other end you hold onto? Ace hardware always has some good magnets

I wouldn't use a rod with a magnet on the end.
I would get something with a magnet built onto the end.
You don't want the magnet coming off also causing more work for you.
I see your in Tampa. I've got a great mechanic in davenport .
If you can't get it call me and I will give you his # .

You could also remove the (plug) hex fitting thats below the the oil filter housing (PTO Cover). The intake manifold has to be removed to get to the hex fitting (TB is in the way).

If that doesn't work, then the PTO cover can be removed without pulling the engine. But first the S/C, pump and driveshaft have to come out. You will need a new PTO gasket.....it too is in the link above.

Tried a few magnets. The magnet heads (even the smallest) were all still too big to fit through that hole. If I dropped that allen wrench 1000 times I wouldn't be able to drop it through that hole again. Just terrible luck.

I really needed this ski operational for something tomorrow, but it looks like I'm completely screwed. Does anyone know the inner workings of the engine? Think I'd be able to snake a magnet over from the SC inlet to wear the bottom of the oil filter holder is?
