    Newbie with a 09 260 LX issues

I'm new and not much experience with this beast.

It has 23 hours on it and had not been run at all last year when I got it. Prior to the end of the last season was profesionally winterized by Kawa dealer.

My first ride after purchase. My start up yesterday was good. Slight hesitation/skip at about 4500 rpm then ran good to 6500 rpm. Later in the day significant drop in power and very fast gas consumptioninitial started to hear a whine from the back end. Boost would get up to a max of about 6 - 7 PSI. Speed to only about 45 (after 65 earlier in the day)

We also have a 09 Yammi that has significant better performance and only used 1/4 of the gas that the 260 used.

I put fresh gas in to fill the tank and had a total of about 45 - 60 min of run time.

I can't seem to think bad gas because it was pretty much all new and it started acting up later.

Spark Plugs? They are probably original.
Oil comes up clean with out any evidence of water from the dipstick.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I am kind of concerned and don't want to take it out again before we figure this out.

    Change your spark plugs.
And check your sc belt tension.

I wonder if jetpump bearings are going bad.
Even if the pump checks out OK, change the bearing setup to 2011 300X spec.
That will be the BEST investment you would ever make on that ski.

    Thanks.

    Will do that tonight.

Anything special about the belt tension to see if it is right?

I have also seen a lot about snapping the plugs - any advice there?

Is there a preferred Iridum plug make?

    Thanks again.

Also the "whine from the back end," check your pump bearings ASAP, especially the front one, even at only 23 hours it is worth checking and/or upgrading to 2011 spec double front bearing hardware with the wide rear nut. Do a search of "250X pump bearing" for more info.

Take them out slowly don't force them it all depends who put them in last and how they come out make sure to apply anti seize when u put the new ones in.

One way to prevent plug seizure/breaking is to remove the plugs from engine after your last riding prior to long storage period like during winter season - if there is one where you live.
If not, then apply a good amount of anti-seizure on the threads of the plugs when install.

Think this might be the problem?

I took a look and found this:

Name:	260lx clamp (Medium).JPG
Views:	180
Size:	226.6 KB
ID:	272310

I'm not sure that the clamp belongs there!

I am sure that this is why we got no power, poor mileage and the whining sound.

I believe this is the clamp between the SC and the IC.

I could feel significant blow back at idle in the driveway so I slid it up to where it belongs and tightened it down. Took it out in the lake and it worked great with none of the bad sounds. Couldn't really get on it much because of the waves but it was significantly different. I am convinced that was the issue.

I am still going to have the pump shaft and bearings done so I will get those ordered.

    thanks for all the advice.
