Thread: Trailer Storage

I have been looking for quite some time for a storage container to mount to my trailer to put all my spare parts, oil, life jackets, tools and what not so I don't have to keep throwing them in the back of the Jeep all the time. While browsing at Menards this evening, I found this container. It's the perfect size to put everything in and it has a nice high lip on the inside to keep the water out. The best part is, it was only $54.00 after rebate, till the end of May. It's lockable and very sturdy. What a nice find. Not only that, but I ran into my boss who should have been working too.
Nevermind all the crap in my garage. I do a lot of work out of there. I did finally get my trailer setup to be united with my Pro 785. I will be picking it up this weekend. Looking forward to getting them together.

I have what appears to be the exact same box bolted to my trailer.
The latch mechanism has a hinge pin supported by two molded plastic bumps (down under the lock cylinder on the inside). These are fragile and every time you twist the knob to open the lid the plastic hinge stresses. The plastic eventually cracked and failed on mine and now the entire latch fails to work properly.
I recently removed the broken latch assembly from the box by drilling out the two rivets holding the lock faceplate to the box. Now I need to figure out how to repair the stock latch or replace it with something more durable.

Mine is a solid hinge across the back. I guess a person could rivit an aluminum hinge to the interior or exterior if such a failure occurs. This is a pretty stout box.
