I have seen them as low as 500 and as high 2000 with blown motors. it all depends on the shape of the ski and if it comes with a trailer. you could post some pics so the guys could help set some kind of value on it . were are you located i have a guy who is looking to buy a blown ski for parts.

Im in indiana and no trailer as the other ski has to stay on the trailer. However i talked to a local marina and he said the engines in these are pretty reliable and usually dont need top end rebuilds. Nor has he heard of having to clean one out? he said the most common issue is the cat breaking free from the housing and causing an issue or oil lines popping off. Whats everyone think? Im hoping this is the case i get the skis thursday so ill look into it and hopefully itll be a small issue and fix the problem.

yes the cat-con goes bad all the time. but the most issues are from carbs been lean and melting pistons,or pv dropping into cylinders damaging piston and cylinder.
or worst case scenario. loosing the number 3 oil line and burning crank, piston, cylinder , and sometimes the cases.

How can i tell if something has dropped in the case? From what the guy said the crank and all was good? so hopefully it didnt get starved of oil

I talked to him today and he said the #1 piston and cylinder were deff messed up and needed replaced but the other 2 were okay however he said pins sheared and dropped into the engine which is why it needed taken apart and cleaned

Do a compression test, report back with the numbers.

You get what you pay for and shipping. advanced auto parts has a reasonable priced one. when buying blown skis always expect worse case. you cant lose that way and dont believe any mechanic that tells you that the rest of the engine is OK with a bad cylinder. Ive got a ski in my shop wright now that dropped a power valve on the rear cylinder and destroyed in and the rest of the power valve went into the exhaust manifold and back into the front cylinder and destroyed it.
A lot of times when you lose a cylinder small pieces of piston wedge between the crank and knock a hole in the cases or from lack of oil and heat ruin the crank bearings. the best thing is to do a tear down to find what went wrong and what is messed up.
