    2006 gti HUGE problem

hello guys, i recently purchased a 2006 GTI with only 70 hours on the ski. The previous owner claimed it has been sitting idle for close to 4 years. Yesterday i took it out to test ride it before the weekend. I only rode it for about 15 mins and got the rpms up to 7400 for about 3 second and then lost power. Engine code was p0344 and sounded like it had no compression. Today i removed the valve cover and saw the timing chain had snapped. I removed the head and saw that 4 of the exhaust valves were bent. My question is where can i get the exhaust valves besides the dealer. its $460 !!!!!
any help would be much appreciated.

IF not, how hard would it be to swap in a rxp/rxt engine?

Better pull the head and check the pistons for damage, If the valves are bent chances are good that the guides are messed up along with a bunch of other parts.

Some of the early 06 motors had sodium filled valves which were prone to have issues. Search the threads and you will find plenty of information. You most likely have additional damage to the head, pistons and possibly the cylinders from the valve dropping and wreaking havoc.

The block maybe shot, if a valve broke off. Need to pull the head first to assess damage. The whole engine needs to come out anyway.

best thing might be to find a good used head with valve in it, get a new timing chain and go. Check those pistions and rods out for damage.

Didn't anyone read the original post.

He removed the valve cover and determined the timing chain was broken.

He then removed the head and all 4 exhaust valves are bent.

He just wants to know if there are cheaper valves available than OEM.

Missed it. I read up to the point where he said it sounded like he had no compression-- I purchased a 2003 GTX 185 last year that had no compression and the timing chain was also broked-- that is why I said timing chain

thanks guys and thanks Blackhawk. Everything has been checked and seems to be okay minus the valves. i ordered a set from a fellow member and hopefully it gets here soon. im taking the motor out sometime after the holiday and check things out. As of the current moment ideas of a turbocharger is starting to brew in my head. i know its a slow ski to start with but who knows it might be fun. Im VERY mechanically inclined and can definitely do rebuilds and installs myself. Any ideas where to find a turbocharger set up?

You are going to need to lower compression if you a putting in a turbocharger unless you want to run on race gas. cost probably isn't worth it.
