    Water in engine compartment

    Hi,
I just bought a Kawi 98 750 STX and went for a ride yesterday for the first time. There is a problem with it, its holding water in the compartment area and its not being drained. Any advise?
    Thanks

Take the seat off and see if water is leaking in while it's sitting still in the water. Could be something as simple as a leaking gasket on the drain plug (a garden hose washer works well as a replacement). Could also be the driveshaft seal.

If you don't see anything, ride it with the seat off and watch for leaks.

There is a drain for the bilge area. There is a white plastic box screwed to the bottom of the hull, behind the engine. It should have a black hose that goes up to the top of the engine compartment to a white angled fitting, then another hose that goes out the back of the 'Ski to the pump. Make sure the hose on the back isn't split. The screen on the bottom of the white plastic box gets plugged easily if there are any leaves or other trash inside the hull.

Thanks very much, I'll try all those tomorrow and will keep you posted.
    I appreciate the advice.

The previous owner of mine installed a Rule 500 electric bilge pump next to the factory bilge. They are cheap and it keeps the engine compartment dry.
