Yes it is necessary as the magneto works harder on the DI due to all the electronics etc so it must be cooled.
The cooling chamber is totally separate to the internal magneto area .Cooling water will never get to the magneto.
It works very well as does the case cooler in removing heat,so yes always run it.

only an inexperienced idiot removes cooling gear from a di/rfi. I had one last year where the entire lower caseheat exchanger was bypassed. Melted the crank seals and the engine failed in a big way.. owner nearly drowned when the wind kicked up

the quick disconnect breaking and the difficulty in hose replacement leads the lazy to bypass. Never with good results. Leaking isn.t possible unless it wasn.t drained and there was a hard freeze.

fix it to original. It.s not that pricey

I thought so,..i see one spigot on the top of the round case thing and i guess theres another close? I seen thr 787 rfi has the same looking thing and it has the snap line on the bottom and a clamped hose on the top...i can't look at my 951 because it at the lake house. i'd like to be prepared to know what to fix before that so if you help i'd appreciate it.

    thanks again

i'd stongly suggest you obtain a manual, which details the cooling system setup..if you sniff around the wen enough you'll find the entire collection of manuals in PDF format. Check the parts diagrams for your ski (make sure you have the year model accurate) and you'll see what you might be needing. I suspect to hook up the crankcase heat exchanger line you are going to have to lift the engine ( sorry)
