    Crank, which to buy?

i was told Hotrod had the best cranks. Now I read that one member had seen many problems with them. not sure if he is a tech himself. That would be the reason why he saw so many. I was wondering should I go with hotrod or is there another crank I should look at?

No I am not a tech, I am an engineer. That is a tech with his brains kicked out.
All I can say is beware hotrods, I would never buy a crank assembly from them again.

I have rebuilt OEM cranks from Crankworks with Hot Rods rods as replacements and they are fine. It is the bearings that make or break a crank and thiers would not even spin once the cases were assembled.

If you decide to go this way and purchase anyways please dont come back here and bitch if something goes wrong. if it works out for you then praise away.

I am sure you have read this http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=109498 I was so passionate about it, I made it a sticky

hey Bill, I was about to send you a e-mail for a carb rebuild. I think I just send letter in box with them. Figure it will be easier with carbs in hand. Now back to the crank. Suggestions on what brand to buy?

bite the bullet and go new oem,if your running off shore (rough water and jumping waves) have it welded so it won't twist
having the crank rebuilt will run in the high $6-700 range depending on shipping and overall damage

From carb issues, the bearing was completely destroyed. Minor scratches to sleeve and piston. That price for a rebuilt I might as well just get a rebuilt one.
