    Triple carb support rail?

I have a '93 Sl 650. It has the 3 Mikuni carb setup with the "support rail" (for lack of a better word) that attaches to all 3 on the fuel inlet side. IS THIS RAIL NECESSARY, other than it also serves as a bracket for the fuel pump. It seems to me that the 2 bolts on each carb are sufficient for securing each carb! I ask for two reasons. 1.) it makes it easy to remove the back plate on each carb to check the fuel filter, internal gasket, etc. 2.) and very important...during my restoration of my ski I LOST THE LITTLE SUCKER!!!

Not sure why it is necessary - I would imagine it would make it easier to get the carbs sync'd on a work bench vs. mounted to the motor and to keep them in a straight line to ensure they stay in sync, but I have a replacement laying around I can get to you cheap if you are interested....

It keeps the carbs in line with each other and prevents binging in the linkage.
