    Anyone want an "upgraded" battery?

Was searching for a new battery, and stumbled across this info...

    http://www.ultimatemotorcycling.com/...gyz20l-battery

Honda made a new battery w/ Yuasa... it's called an "upgrade".
Standard Aquatrax battery is: YTX20L-BS (same as the Kawi 12F, 15F, Ultra, 250X, etc...)

    Upgrade version: YUASA GYZ20L

Only available from Honda powersport dealers(?)

    - Larger capacity, same physical size
    - 50% lower static discharge rate,
    - dramatically improved recovery rate
    - 11% higher amperage
    - 81% greater life cycle performance
    Sounds like a winner...

My OEM Yuasa battery lasted for 9 years. That's good enough for me.

What's your secret? Keep it on a tender? I have mine (Yuasa YTX20L-BS) on a deltron battery tender 90% of the time at home..
It's at 5-6 yrs now, but recently have the no start issues. Hoping it's not the batt.

Btw... the new GYZ20L is a Yuasa battery.

The Yuasa YTX20L on my 2004 15F is still the original and still cranks up fine. Of course, it's on a Yuasa 900mA auto-charger and the battery terminals are ALWAYS disconnected when not riding for a long period of time.

The new GYZ20L sounds like a copy of DEKA DTX20 which was/is an improved version of YTX20 (actually a copy but made it better). Yes, it costs little more but heck a lot better. I use that on my standup ski.

Thanks for the info! I never thought of it.. but yea, it would be a great idea to disconnect the battery when not in use~ I'll do that for the future.

I have to admit... I have a Yuasa YTX20L that i removed from my first 12F (battery seemed nearly dead)... and just kept it on a tender. Sure enough, it holds
charge well enough now, it became the power source for my portable wideband tuning setup.

To take this a step further... has anyone tried the Lithium batteries out there for their runabout PWC's? Like Shorai... Ballistic... or SkyRich? They claim the batteries weigh in
less than 3 lbs!~ the biggest worry I have on the water is the battery, (it's not like we can just kick start the ski).

I use a cheap Shumacher trickle charger from Wal-Mart. The secret is to plug the charger into a timer. Even an automatic trickle charger can overcharge a battery if left on continuously. Set the timer to charge 15 minutes per day and it won't overcharge.

Another trick I've heard someone else do, instead of a timer, is to plug the charger into a light socket outlet on a garage door opener. If you keep your 'Ski in a garage, the charger turns on for a couple minutes each time the door is open or closed.

late to the party here... but I just replaced my OEM 8 YEARS with a Deka... no starting issues I dropped it and the Case Cracked.... probably time for a new one anyhow... might have been an sign

During the off season which in NY is forever.. I kept it on a proper Battery Tender.
