Pop Off Problem

I have a '93 Sl 650. Putting engine back together after rebuild. The book says the Pop-Off should be 10-18 lbs. However, it still has the stock needle valve that is a 1.5. According to the chart in the shop manual AND the Mikuni 38mm carb manual, with a 1.5 valve and even the lightest spring, you can't get a 10-18 ! I have installed the carb its, so all internals are new except the spring, since I was having prob with the Pop-Off, I put the original back in. The carbs are baby-butt clean and I am performing the test correctly. According to the chart, the 32lbs I am getting is the best you can get with a 1.5 needle valve. Wutsupwithat?

Any help appreciated. I DO NOT WANT TO BURN A PISTON AFTER ALL THE WORK i AM DOING

I was really surprised to see that the older models did use the 1.5 needle and seat. I thought all Fuji's came with the 2.0.

If it bothers you that much (and I don't blame you one bit) you can always get new 2.0 needles and seats. Yeah it's going to cost you around $50 for all 3, but I think that would be worth your piece of mind.

Ok...ya got me worried moe now! Should I buy some 2.0 or larger valves? The cost is not an issue. After all the work I am doing I want it to run nice. I'm not looking for a rocket! I want a nice, "non-lean-running" ski to have fun with the grandkids! If the anser is yes, any suggestion re: size? 2.0, 2.3, 2.5 ??? Just so all is clear, it's a 93 SL 650, blue Fuji engine, triple Mikuni BN38 mm carbs. Everything is stock..no high performance mods, etc!

2.0 with the black 80g spring should do the trick.

I didn't mean to try and scare you. (not sure how my response did, but sorry)

I would go with 2.0, and I've always used the 65 gram springs for 10-18 psi
