    99 Xlt Cavitation Problem

I have a 99 xlt 1200 that cavitates badly when pulling anything. I pulled the pump off to inspect the empeller, wear ring and stator. Empeller clearance was .014 thousands. Empeller blades were nicked up and one blade appears to be slightly bent. Stainless wear ring is worn paper thin in spots. Pump stator has cavitation erosion on all veins. Plan is to replace empeller and wear ring. Is stator salvagable? And has anyone used the WSM plastic wear ring?

The impeller and pump condition you are describing should not cause the cavitation problem you experienced.....I think!

Do you notice a bogging problem?

Does it ride fine when not pulling anything?

Does it accelerate smoothly from idle to WOT when you ride solo?

When was the last time you had the carbs worked on?

    How many hours on ski?

    One more thing!

Do not buy plastic pump liner......If you must buy new impeller and pump go with stainless from www.atlanticjetsports.com and ask for Jim Pomarico (he's a good guy)

I have already put a pump shoe seal kit and riva intake grate on ski. It helped cavitation problem some what. My main question is pump stator usable as is? or does it need to be repaired? Or replaced? Ski runs fine whith one rider. Cavitates worse riding two up. Cavitates severly trying to pull a skier.

Your 99 came with the housing with the thin liner which has to be replaced. If your not looking for the plastic liner go with a new OEM with the thicker liner ( in stock too ). From your pic your pump seems ok except for a little cavation burn on the blades. but thats not the cause of your problems--- if the fins are nicked cleam them up a little. the impeller is another story--- if its a stock impeller dont bother repairing it, go with a solas. bent blades and nicked blades will cause cavatation issues.

is it cavatating when u try to pull a skier or just not pulling the skier out of the water like you have no bottom end

Sorry for late response.........I recommend the Riva SS housing (has no liner)......less parts, less problems.

    http://www.atlanticjetsports.com/riv...r_housings.htm

I am sure there are pros & cons for using SS or plastic, it could be argued all day long. I know I dont have to worry about liner debonding and jamming impeller.
I hope this clarifies why I suggested not to use plastic.
