2008 FX SHO Speed Gauge Not Working

I replaced the whole speed sensor with the little wheel as suggested but no luck. Any other suggestions on what could be wrong?

do you have an aftermarket plate were the wheel sits up to high.

Is it an aftermarket ride plate?

With engine at an idle on the hose: spray compressed air on the pickup paddle and see if you get a reading.

Everything is stock. When the MPH button is pressed the pin doesn't move at all (dead). It's doing the same thing as the old sensor I replaced. Tried the suggestion with the compressed air and still nothing. Thanks for the replies!

That said I would at least suspect the gauge. It happens...

Unfortunately, a replacement gauge comes in just under 1k.

There are several other things it could be. My 09 FZR/S service manual won't generalize well to a cruiser SHO, or I'd cut and paste the gauge trouble shooting section of the manual to you. If you don't want to take it to a dealer, see if you can get ahold of a service manual and follow the instructions for ruling out bad connections, switches, etc.

Worst case, a GPS is a much cheaper (and more accurate) means of measuring speed. Many of the owners here disconnect their speedos due to inaccuracy. Personally, I wouldn't bother replacing my speedo if it went out, I'd just go w/ the GPS. Hopefully, the fix will turn out to be something as simple and cheap as a corroded or loose connection.
