I personally use the yamalube 10w-40 with the oem oil filter. A lot of people here use synthetic (specifically amsoil marine oil).

while we are on the topi... i recently just did a 10hr oil change on my vxr.... manual said if i didnt use yamalube... that any 10w 30 or 10w 40 as long as it was SAE would work... so i bought a gallon of valvoline conventional 10w 30... 4 quarts came out so i put 4 quarts back in.
anything wrong with using standard valvoline 10w 30? manual says its fine... so it must be safe right?

It's not nearly as critical in a VXR as it is a SHO, because you don't have the sprag clutch to deal with. That's the main reason I use Yamalube. There's alot more to oil than just synthetic/viscosity etc.
